The citizens advice service aims:
- To provide the advice people need for the problems they face.
- To provide the policies and practices that affect people's lives.
The service provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone, on their rights and
responsibilities. It values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination.
The citizens advice service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing advice and
information and by influencing policymakers.
The advice and information provided by bureau is free, independent, confidential and impartial.
We provide advice to face-to-face, telephone and e-mail services, and online via our self-help website at
www.adviceguide.org.uk
Citizens advice bureau advisors can write letters and make phone calls to service providers on the client's behalf.
They can help people prioritise debts and negotiate with creditors. They can also refer clients to specialist
caseworkers who are able to represent people at courts and tribunal's.
As the U.K.'s largest advice provider we are equipped to deal with any issue, from anyone, spanning debt and
employment to housing and immigration plus everything in between.
Across the country 20,500 people work for the citizens advice service: 7000 paid staff and 21,500 volunteers.
Volunteers perform all sorts of roles from advising, to administration, IT support, press relations and
trusteeship.
Citizens advice bureau volunteers benefit from free training, ongoing support and expenses.
Nearly a third of volunteers who leave us go on into paid employment or full-time education
The Citizens Advice Bureau makes people happier and healthier. 46% of people felt less anxious, less stressed or
had fewer health problems after receiving help from the citizens advice bureau (MORI, 2005)
We take the strain off local services in many ways for example by preventing homelessness, avoiding legal
action and helping people to fill in official forms correctly
We contribute to the local economy by helping clients to major debts and maximise their income is.
